This seems like an article inspired by a single Bernie Sanders tweet, where supporting facts were quickly gathered in an attempt to loosely prove the legitimacy of the tweet. For example, comparing 50-year old Patagonia (a company with a strong mission statement) being able to weather the economic depression better than a newly formed Everlane (another company with a strong mission statement) in the middle of their growth period, is an apples and oranges comparison. EVERY company has a brand and mission statement. It’s naive to think that the entirety of the private sector can save everyone’s jobs and uphold its moral default during a depression.
